Student Inc. Presentations
31 August, 2018
Student Inc. is run by Rubicon and the Innovation & Enterprise Office. The Hincks Centre provides support for the academic part of the programme. To receive the 5 ECTS credits, participants are required to submit a written report and learning journals throughout the summer and, also, give a final presentation.
Participants of this year’s Student Inc. Programme presented their business ideas and products to all present in the Council Room on Friday, August 31, 2018.
During their presentations, the participants spoke highly of the programme, of the knowledge and experience that they gained, of the encouragement and help that they received and of how it had helped them to develop both personally and professionally. All agreed that it was a great experience and the Student Inc. programme gave them the opportunity to develop their business ideas.
The award for Most Innovative Product / Idea went to Mary Rose Shanahan, Gan Uisce. For hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) sufferers, Gan Uisce’s solution is in the form of thin, discreet under-arm sweat patches that adhere to the skin. With moisture wicking technology, the hypoallergenic sweat patches will soak up underarm sweat. Being scented, their use will also eliminate the need to use antiperspirant or deodorant.
Super Fungi, Martin Condon and Hugh McCarthy, received the award for Best Business Opportunity with Potential for Growth. Super Fungi take advantage of the many health benefits of mushrooms to produce Hot Chocolate Nootropic Recovery Blend for those on the mend and Raw Local Honey with Reishi and Chaga Mushrooms for keeping coughs, colds, seasonal allergies and asthma at bay.
Taster received the award for Best Business Plan. Aisling Reardon set out to change the way people see, think, buy and sell food. Tasterfood.com is an online platform for viewing visual representations of food menus. The user scrolls through images of food and then clicks on the image of the food that they like. The user will then be taken to the website of the restaurant where that food is available.
