APPrentice Competition 2020

APPrentice Competition 2020

06 March, 2020

The finals of the APPrentice Competition 2020 took place on Friday 6th March, the last day of yet another incredible Innovation Week in CIT. The APPrentice Competition is sponsored by CIT’s School of Business and run by Hincks Centre for Entrepreneurship Excellence. Students had the opportunity to share business ideas and get the chance to win prizes for their efforts.

This year, we were delighted to receive over 120 applications from students across CIT (including NMCI and CSM), FETAC students from Cork College Progression Scheme and, for the first time, students from IT Tralee. The first round judges had the difficult task of choosing 15 finalists from so many great APP ideas.

The Hincks Team and the students set up the displays in the Nexus Hall. The posters were created by Business Administration students, with support from their lecturers Orla Cartner and Mary Oldham. The Nexus was also host to the Prize for Innovation and the BT Young Scientists 2020 winners.

The event began at 10:15 with a panel of three external judges visiting each of the stands and speaking to each of the finalists. This year, Dr. Andreas Sønning from the Norwegian Academy of Music and Alanna Carty from Orthoxel (a company located in the Rubicon Centre) reviewed the APP ideas. Katy Graepel (Marketing Manager at Graepel Perforators and Weavers Ltd.) reviewed the posters.
