The Hincks Centre’s Dr Helen McGuirk travelled to the northern Spanish city of Burgos for the Interreg Europe Silver SMEs project partner meeting and study visit this week.

Focusing on the implementation of the action plans by partners, Helen was delighted to present and announce the inclusion of the silver economy in Ireland’s South-West Enterprise Plan to 2024 (Action 1.7).

The 2-day event was launched by a welcome from Mr. César Rico, President of the Provincial Government of Burgos and President of SODEBUR’s General Committee. Following detailed discussion on the state of the art of the silver economy, the group visited several innovative businesses supporting older people in the rural areas around the Burgos region including Hasta la Cocina, Clinica Arlanza and Lerma Town Hall. These visits and conversations with entrepreneurs and managers provide excellent insights on the value of supporting and growing a silver economy.
