Social Enterprise Day is part of Global Entrepreneurship Week.

'Social Enterprise - A New Beginning for Social Enterprise in Ireland', the theme of Ireland’s fourth conference hosted by the Department of Rural and Community Development was held in Dublin on Thursday, November 17.

The diverse group of participants were treated to excellent presentations from the European Commission, the OECD and a panel discussion with Social Entrepreneurs from across Ireland.

In preparation for the next Social Enterprise Policy Action Plan 2023, the afternoon workshop focused on the challenges, opportunities and next steps to drive a stronger and sustainable social economy.

Points included were:

• the need for clarity on what constitutes a social enterprise;
• the valuable role of education and training;
• the challenge in measuring social impact and
• the need for increased public investment in viable social enterprises.

The Hincks Centre’s Helen McGuirk represented MTU as part of the Governments Department of Rural and Community Development Our Rural Future Network of Higher Education Institutions.
