HERE-SA Project Study Visit

HERE-SA Project Study Visit

28 February, 2023

The Hincks Centre team were delighted to welcome senior faculty and management from universities across South Africa this week.

As part of the Erasmus+ Higher Education Reform Experts - South Africa, or HERE-SA project, the three-day study visit showcased MTU’s strong entrepreneurship education and research ecosystem. We were proud to share our experience on curriculum development, examples of research led entrepreneurship modules and how we support students and faculty across the University.

HERE-SA is led by THENSA with partners from South Africa, Finland, Italy, Ireland (MTU) and Spain. The study visit was hosted by the Hincks Centre’s Dr Helen McGuirk with support from MTU colleagues - Prof Irene Sheridan, Extended Campus, Prof Ger Kelly, and Dr Gearoid O’Suilleabhain, Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) - also partners in the HERE-SA project.

The welcome address by MTU’s President Professor Maggie Cusack highlighted the level of involvement by all groups of people in the visit, including students, heads of faculty, lecturers, researchers, heads of Schools and Departments. Prof Cusack wished the group ‘a fruitful and enjoyable visit to Cork and to some of MTU’s campuses’ and invited Dr Anshu Padayachee, CEO of THENSA, to sign our visitor’s book. Following the formalities several of the group treated the large audience to a traditional song in their own language, with amazing harmonies and rhythm.

The busy schedule included sessions on:

  • Overview of MTU and Entrepreneurship - Focus of the Study Visit
  • Entrepreneurship Research, Education and Curriculum Development at MTU
  • Creative Thinking - a Mindset
  • Extended Campus - Industry Engagement
  • Innovation in Entrepreneurship Teaching, Learning and Assessment
  • Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL)
  • Off Campus - Visit to Cork Chamber and SME in the City.
  • Engaging Industry in Supporting Students
  • Entrepreneurship - Supporting Students and Staff
  • Incubator and Enterprise Supports
