LEGO breaks the ice
16 September, 2024
On Monday the 16th of September, Rebecca Robinson, Researcher in the Hincks Centre for Entrepreneurship Excellence and LEGO Serious Play (LSP) Facilitator, delivered 4 LSP sessions to approximately 170 students. Rebecca was invited by 2nd year Accounting and Marketing Co-ordinators, Wei Xiong and Sinead Huskisson in MTU to deliver a LSP workshop that would encourage teamwork and would break the ice for students at the start of term.
Rebecca started the workshops by giving students some history and context to what they were about to do and the benefits of LSP. Students explored LSP through the task of building a duck and naming it. This showed the diversity of thought among individuals who were given the same task but with different outcomes where students engaged in storytelling and communication skills as well as showing all the varying types of ducks.
Secondly, students choose to build a business concept in teams by only using two words that they had chosen as a group. The students had a further insight into how different groups could come up with differing business concepts with the same two words and even showing the students how the different business concepts could be complementary to what they had built. Students explored their creative, teamwork and collaboration skills.
The workshops were funded by the ANSEO office in MTU who implement actions to enhance and improve student experience. Students were asked for their feedback and suggestions for future workshops. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive.
