Hincks Centre and MTU Arts Office Join Forces to Support Registrar’s Prize Winner with Entrepreneurship Mentoring

09 June, 2025
The Hincks Centre is proud to collaborate with Munster Technological University’s (MTU) Arts Office and Registrar’s Office to provide dedicated entrepreneurship mentoring to the 2025 recipient of the prestigious MTU Registrar’s Prize.
This highly regarded annual prize is personally selected by Professor Christine Cross, Vice President for Academic Affairs & Registrar, and honours exceptional artistic talent within MTU. The award includes the acquisition of a significant work for the MTU Art Collection, a financial bursary, and a solo exhibition at the James Barry Exhibition Centre in March 2026, supported by the MTU Arts Office.
This year’s prize has been awarded to Julia Dlugosz, whose thought-provoking ceramic vessels earned the selection. She was formally presented with the award by Professor Alistair Payne, Dean of the Faculty of Creative and Performing Arts and Media at MTU Crawford College of Art and Design’s Graduate Exhibitions 2025.

Julia’s current body of work draws inspiration from Ancient Egyptian representations of everyday life, exploring the dialogue between past and present values. Working primarily with crank terracotta clay, she combines ceramics with traditional basket coiled lids to echo the form and function of Canopic Jars—vessels once used in mummification rituals.
“My practice honours tradition while reflecting contemporary perspectives,” Julia explains. “By blending modern design with ancient imagery, I aim to connect people through the physicality of clay and its historical legacy.”

As part of her award package, Julia will receive entrepreneurship mentoring from the Hincks Centre, designed to equip emerging creatives with the skills and confidence to build sustainable professional practices.

This cross-departmental collaboration reflects MTU’s wider mission to support student success both artistically and professionally, ensuring that creative excellence is paired with the tools to thrive beyond graduation.
