MTU Green Campus Week

MTU Green Campus Week

02 March, 2026

As part of Munster Technological University’s (MTU) Green Campus Week, the Hincks Centre for Entrepreneurship Excellence showcased a powerful new resource designed to transition higher education institutions (HEIs) toward a more sustainable future.

On March 2, researcher Rebecca Robinson led a lunchtime session introducing the University Greening Toolbox. The toolkit is a primary output of the GET-AHED project, an Erasmus+ initiative dedicated to embedding green entrepreneurship and sustainable development into the DNA of universities across Europe.

A Three-Tiered Approach to Change
The session highlighted that sustainability is not just about recycling bins or energy-efficient lighting; it requires a holistic institutional shift. The Greening Toolbox provides actionable frameworks for three specific pillars of the university community:

  1. Students: Focusing on empowering the next generation of leaders with the mindset to tackle environmental challenges.
  2. Staff: Providing resources to integrate Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and green practices into daily curriculum and operations.
  3. Management: Offering strategic guidance for high-level institutional change and long-term policy alignment.

The event was hosted in collaboration with MTU Sustainability and Louise Byrne, highlighting the university's commitment to the European Green Deal. By utilising open-access resources like the GET-AHED toolkit, MTU aims to build real capacity for sustainability that transcends the classroom.

The University Greening Toolbox is an open-access resource, meaning it is free for educators, administrators, and student bodies globally.
